Bistar WP

Bistar WP by ENVU is a residual mosquito-control insecticide formulated for professional public-health and vector-management programmes. It is applied to approved indoor surfaces where adult mosquitoes commonly rest, including walls and other suitable structural surfaces.

After the spray deposit dries, mosquitoes coming into contact with the treated surface are exposed to the insecticide. Its residual action continues working after application, making Bistar WP different from space sprays or fogging products that primarily target mosquitoes present in the air during treatment.

Bistar WP contains 10% Bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. The World Health Organization lists Bistar 10WP as an active prequalified product for indoor residual spraying.

Target Mosquitoes

Bistar WP is recommended for controlling adult mosquitoes belonging to the following major groups:

• Aedes aegypti: associated with the transmission of dengue, chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases
• Anopheles mosquitoes: responsible for malaria transmission
• Culex mosquitoes: associated with filariasis, encephalitis and other mosquito-borne infections

ENVU identifies these three mosquito groups as the target pests for Bistar WP.

Recommended Application Method

Bistar WP is intended for use as an Indoor Residual Spray, or IRS. The diluted insecticide is applied uniformly to approved indoor surfaces on which mosquitoes are likely to rest.

Common treatment surfaces may include:

• Interior walls
• Ceilings
• Dark indoor resting areas
• Approved surfaces inside residential structures
• Public-health and institutional buildings
• Other mosquito-resting surfaces specified on the product label

It should not be used as a thermal-fogging or ULV-fogging product.

Dosage and Application Rate

The ENVU India product information lists the following indoor residual spray specifications:

• Formulation: 125 g
• Dilution water: 10 litres
• Application rate: 20 ml of prepared spray per square metre
• Target deposit: 25 mg active ingredient per square metre

Always confirm the dose on the original pack before preparing the treatment because sachet size, equipment calibration and approved local directions may vary. ENVU lists the Indian pack size as 63 g.

Mode of Action

Bifenthrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide classified as a sodium-channel modulator. It interferes with the normal functioning of the insect nervous system, resulting in uncontrolled nerve activity, paralysis and death of susceptible mosquitoes that contact the treated surface.

How to Prepare the Spray

1. Wear the protective equipment specified on the product label.
2. Fill the spray tank partly with clean water.
3. Measure the required quantity of Bistar WP.
4. Prepare a smooth premix using a small amount of water.
5. Add the premix to the spray tank.
6. Add the remaining water to achieve the required volume.
7. Mix or agitate the solution thoroughly.
8. Maintain agitation during spraying to keep the powder properly suspended.
9. Apply uniformly at the label-recommended rate.

Important Application Instructions

• Use only properly calibrated residual-spray equipment.
• Apply the spray uniformly without excessive dripping or runoff.
• Do not apply through thermal foggers or ULV fogging machines.
• Keep people and animals away during mixing and application.
• Allow treated surfaces to dry completely before people or animals re-enter.
• Do not spray food, utensils, drinking water, animal feed, toys, bedding or food-preparation surfaces.
• Do not wash, paint or replaster treated walls immediately after application, as this may reduce the residual effect.
• Follow local insecticide-resistance management recommendations.
