A Tradescantia zebrina in an 8.5 cm pot (roughly 3-4 inches) is a small to medium-sized, fast-growing, trailing plant. It is widely known for its decorative foliage, featuring succulent-like, ovate leaves with silvery-green stripes on top and deep purple, magenta undersides.

  • Appearance: A vibrant, trailing plant ideal for hanging baskets or as a tabletop decorative plant. Leaves are lance-shaped to ovate, with striking longitudinal silver/green stripes above and bright purple underneath.
  • Growth: Fast-growing and low-maintenance. The trailing vines can grow quite long, but are usually compact at this container size.
  • Flowers: Produces small, white or purple-pink flowers sporadically, though it is primarily grown for its foliage.
  • Light Requirement: Thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light, but the leaves may lose their bright coloration.
  • Watering: Requires moderate watering, allowing the soil to dry out partially between waterings to prevent root rot.
  • Care: Very easy to propagate by stem cuttings and responds well to regular trimming to promote a bushier shape.
