About this Item

Echinopsis subdenudata (often called Domino Cactus or Easter Lily Cactus) is a small, globose, and often solitary cactus native to Bolivia and Paraguay. Recognized for its dark green, nearly spineless body with 8-12 ribs and white, woolly areoles, it produces large, fragrant white flowers. It is a popular, low-maintenance ornamental plant.

Description & Appearance
  • Stem: Globular and depressed at the top, typically 5-8 cm tall and 7-12 cm in diameter. The body is dark green, often developing white, fuzzy “domino-like” areoles.
  • Ribs: 8 to 12 well-defined, acute, and slightly notched ribs.
  • Spines: Almost spineless, or with very short, cream-to-grayish brown spines that are sometimes hidden by wool.
  • Flowers: Large, fragrant white flowers (sometimes with a slightly pinkish tint) that bloom at night and last into the following morning. They can reach up to 22 cm in length.
  • Blooms: Occurs during spring and summer.
Cultivation & Care
  • Light: Thrives in bright, indirect sunlight or full sun, but should be protected from the harsh afternoon sun.
  • Watering: Water sparingly and only when the soil is completely dry, especially in winter, to prevent root rot.
  • Soil: Requires very well-draining potting mix, such as a loam or sand-based cactus mix.
  • Hardiness: Generally hardy, suitable for zones 9-11.
  • Usage: Ideal for small pots, windowsills, and beginners.
