About this Item

Sedum morganianum ‘Super Silver’ (a variation of the standard Donkey’s Tail) is a trailing, succulent perennial with densely packed, fleshy, tear-drop-shaped leaves. Known for its silvery-blue-green color and long, drooping stems (up to 24-40 inches), it is perfect for hanging planters, requiring bright light, well-draining soil, and infrequent watering.

Key Description & Features
  • Appearance: The plant produces thick, trailing, “rope-like” stems covered in fleshy leaves, resembling a thick, trailing tail.
  • Leaf Color: The “Super Silver” variety typically features a paler, more glaucous or silvery, grey-green color compared to standard green types, often covered in a white powdery wax (farina) that protects it from sun.
  • Trailing Length: Stems can grow 24 to 60 inches (60–100 cm) long over several years, making it ideal for hanging baskets.
  • Flowers: In summer, it may produce small, terminal flowers that are pink or red, though flowering is rare when kept as an indoor plant.
  • Fragility: The leaves are loosely attached and highly fragile, breaking off easily if touched or disturbed.
Care and Cultivation
  • Light: Prefers bright light to full sun to maintain its silvery color and compact growth. It can handle filtered afternoon sun to avoid scorching.
  • Watering: Requires moderate watering, strictly following a “soak and dry” approach. Ensure the soil is completely dry before watering again to prevent rot.
  • Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a succulent or cactus mix, mixed with perlite or pumice.
  • Temperature: Not frost-tolerant. Thrives in temperatures around 65-75°F (18-24°C) and should be brought inside if temperatures fall below 40°F (4°C).
  • Propagation: Very easy to propagate from individual leaves or stem cuttings, which will root easily.
